This River Wasn’t Blue

Gather round you people

I swear this story’s true

Once upon a time, the river wasn’t blue

Debris was floating by, in water of a different hue

Textile mills, dumped their dyes

And people closed their eyes

And the owners made money, no matter the cost

They didn’t realize, that the river could be lost

The river wasn’t blue

The river wasn’t blue

And the people gathered round

Didn’t like what they found

Something must be done

To make these rivers run

Cleaner can’t you see

So fish can swim naturally

It all makes sense to me

What about you?

Rivers should run blue

Is it all about money?

Is it all about greed?

Is that our priority?

Is that our history?

The river wasn’t blue

With garbage floating through

You know in 1972

10,000 people came through

To clean this dirty water

Just folks like me and you

Now it’s 2022

What are you going to do?

The river needs love and protection

To get it back to blue

It’s not about money

It’s not about greed

It’s about the future

Planting a seed

The river running blue!

The river running blue!

The river running blue!

The river running blue!
